Gifted artists grow so consumed by their work that presenting it for sale becomes an afterthought -- which must be why those geniuses who spray-paint planets eschew gallery walls for blankets. Bucking that trend, Claw Money's new e-digs.
NYC graffiti-bombing legend Claw built her clothing cred by designing for Nike and adidas, and styling everyone from GNR to Ice Cube (His signature sneer? That's all her.); now, she's set up in an easy-to-navigate web store light years beyond her former, sometimes-inscrutable shop. All the gear's "uptown meets downtown": tees and hoodies are emblazoned with her signature claw graphic, plus everything from cheeseburgers to teddy bears to the creepy carnie-esque font used in SNAP PING NECKS (perhaps a nod to the ever-rickety Zipper). But shades are where Claw makes her true mark; she's laid out her pimptastic gold-detailed Gazelles alongside three variations of spankin'-new angular Aviators, and the B.I.G.-approved Tortoise Nuggets -- also what's left when party dude Michelangelo over-pizzas.
In addition to the clothes/shades, Claw's also selling gold jewelry, limited-edition 25"x30" art prints, and her Collection series of handmade one-off hoodies, which go for a grand apiece, usually to famous people -- who clearly don't care that after making and marketing the stuff, Claw didn't have the bandwidth to figure out pricing.
