Learning to rock from a dude whose expertise is attested to on telephone poles is like learning to drive from a guy lying in a ditch next to a pile of smoking wreckage. Hone your musical talent under people who use theirs to pay for yachts, with Now Play It.
NPI is a new British service peddling one-song video music lessons taught by the actual artists who made the tune famous, before selling the rights to Chevy. Each 15-25 minute session covers technique and equipment setup on guitar, bass, or drums (if you can't self-teach tambourine, you've probably already choked to death on a Tic Tac). The burgeoning artist lineup ranges from 90s Brit rock legends (Blur, Supergrass) to the incomparable KT Tunstall, who'll teach you to be the best Scottish singer/songwriter/one-woman-band you can be.
Of course, some bands're too busy being legends (Bowie) or cartoons (Gorillaz) for a tutoring gig. To cop their hits, NPI offers "Lite" and "In-House" sessions, i.e., jams taught by the site's own staff -- whose credentials can be torn off in tiny strips from the nearest street kiosk.
