You've had white wine, pink wine, red wine and, if you're a fan of the great Neil Diamond or the great-for-a-moment UB40, you've even had red, red wine.
But have you ever had green wine? Now's your chance: New York's First Annual Vinho Verde Week, June 21-27.
Actually named not for its color, but for its incomparable freshness, Vinho Verde is a light, fruity, vivacious wine that pairs well with summer-friendly dishes from shellfish to roasted duck, and hails from thousands of small vineyards in Minho, Portugal. Vinho Verde Week will see some of the city's best restaurants offering special pairing menus and by-the-bottle or -glass deals, including the likes of BLT Prime, Macao Trading Co., and The Oak Room, not to be confused with The Austrian Oak Room, where people basically just drink in views of the Governor of California's biceps. There'll also be tastings and discounts offered at retailers all over town, from the Flatiron's Bottlerocket, to Brooklyn's Red, White, and Bubbly (these colors don't run, but they do pop).
