More than two billion people in the world don’t have access to safe water, and more than 840,000 people die every year from water-related diseases. The staggering numbers can make the global problem feel remote and insurmountable, but you can help without even putting on pants. All you have to do is raise your glass for a toast and post it on social media.
Absolut Elyx vodka is partnering with Water For People to donate safe water to communities in need. From World Water Day on March 22 through Earth Day on April 22, Elyx will give a week’s worth of water (140 liters) for every post that uses the hashtag #RaiseItForward and mentions the accounts @WaterForPeople and @AbsolutElyx. You can show off any type of drink on the social platform of your choice, be it Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
Water For People is a nonprofit that works in nine countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa to supply water and sanitation services by working with local people. Elyx joined in a five-year-long partnership with Water For People in 2015 and has provided water for more than 30,000 people to date. Last year, more than 4,800 posts were shared on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, equaling 672,000 liters of water donated.
“#RaiseItForward is a great campaign to bring awareness to the global water crisis, while making a real difference for people who live without safe water around the world,” Water For People CEO Eleanor Allen said in a statement. “We are grateful for the long-term partnership with Absolut Elyx. This collaboration has made a real, long-term difference for thousands of people around the world, and continues to make a greater impact year over year.”
Take some time to be a better global citizen this month. Raise a glass and post about it.
