Aldi has created another slew of award-winning bargain spirits, and you’re going to want to stock up for the winter. One Aldi-branded liqueur won the Master award at the Spirits Business Global Liqueur Masters, while four others won gold and three won silver. In other words, there are now eight more bottles to add into your already full Aldi shopping cart—and they’re all under 13 pounds (about $17).
The Master winner is the 7-pound (about $9) Specially Selected Crème de Cassis, a blackcurrant flavored liqueur that was also a favorite last year. The gold winners are Clarke’s Devil’s Own Hot Cinnamon Liqueur (something akin to Fireball), Bellucci Amaretto Liqueur, Specially Selected Irish Cream Liqueur and Specially Selected Pumpkin Spice Irish Cream Liqueur.
The silver winners are Specially Selected Chocolate Irish Cream Liqueur, Ballycastle Irish Country Cream and Tamova Salted Caramel Vodka Liqueur, which had the internet in a frenzy earlier this year.
The Global Spirits Masters is a blind tasting competition of an international range of spirits in a variety of categories. It’s been running since 2008 with an independent panel of judges from bartenders to journalists to educators. The 2017 winners were announced on November 7, and there’s no better time than now to fill your bar with bottles.
If this sounds like a story you’ve read before, only with different Aldi brands, it’s because it is. Aldi-branded budget alcohol won more than 200 medals in 2017. Some of those wins are repeats from the 90 awards that Aldi won in 2016, but most are entirely new. 2017 was truly the year of Aldi fever, and we’re not complaining about it. Where else can you get mini bottles of Champagne, tequila cheddar cheese, and dog beer and cat wine all in one place?
