In 1974, Baileys became the first Irish cream liqueur on the market. Now, in this limitless age of alcohol food mashups, you can eat your Baileys in an ice cream sandwich. Baileys Original Ice Cream Sandwiches exist, and they’re the summer treat that you’ve been missing in your life.
The ice cream sandwiches are flavored with the taste of Baileys and come in four packs. The first news of them broke nearly a year ago when an Australian Facebook page called Aldi Mum gave this rave review: “Aldi Food Review: BAILEYS ICE CREAM SANDWICHES! (These deserve capital letters!).” Short, sweet and to the point. The post has resurfaced as temperatures start to warm up, because who wouldn’t want an ice cream sandwich that tastes like Baileys? Alcohol and ice cream go together like Corona and lime, and creamy Baileys is the perfect fit to go between two pieces of chocolatey cookie.
There’s a catch if you want to taste for yourself, because there’s always a catch. The sandwiches are only available in Australia, and, after much digging through the Baileys and Aldi websites, there’s still no sign of them in the U.S. One year after the Aussies got a taste, Americans will have to sweat out summer without Baileys ice cream sandwiches. At least we’ll always have our homemade Ice Cream Sandwich cocktails.
