Beer Yoga Is A Thing That You Need to Try

There’s no better way to limber up and reach a higher state of consciousness than yoga—except when you pair it with a nice witbier. At least, that’s the philosophy behind Berlin-based yoga studio, Bieryoga.

Merging two super-chill hobbies, Bier Yoga (a.k.a. Beer Yoga) not only encourages practitioners to drink beer after a yoga session, but also during. It even incorporates bottles of beer into the asanas. “The joy of drinking beer and the mindfulness of yoga compliment each other, and make for an energizing experience,” reads Bieryoga’s website. Forget sun salutations—it’s all about beer salutations.

“Basically, I played around with it in my room with a Radler [a mix of beer and lemonade or soda],” Bieryoga founder Jhula told Vice’s Munchies, adding that her experience at Burning Man provided inspiration. “I took standard vinyasa sequences, which most people have done a bunch of times, and tried to figure out everywhere I could work beer in there.”

The practice quickly caught on in Berlin, and throughout Germany, and is now also a staple for Australian yogis. Though there are plenty of breweries Stateside offering “beer and yoga” sessions, with beer served after an intense yoga class, there are yet to be any reports of official Beer Yoga classes being offered in the U.S. That said, it probably won’t be long.

So rest assured, yogis and beer lovers: You won’t have to choose between yoga practice and happy hour much longer.
