Brilliant Parents Give Their Son’s Teachers Wine with His Face on It

Giving a teacher an end-of-year holiday present can be hit or miss. How can you say “thank you” and “sorry my child is a nuisance” while also acknowledging that nothing is going to change next semester?

Wine. The answer is wine, and one Ohio family captured the perfect message with a custom bottle label. Mary and Paul Sommers, the parents of 14-year-old Jake, gave 10 of their son’s teachers a bottle of Chardonnay with Jake’s face on the label and the caption, “Our child might be the reason you drink so enjoy this bottle on us!”

The gift quickly spread from news outlet to news outlet after Jake’s brother DJ posted a photo of the bottles on Twitter.

“My parents always get our elementary school teachers a present around Christmas,” DJ tweeted. “Typically something small like a candle or flower to say thank you. This year they got them bottles of wine & replaced the labels with their own with my brother on them… Happy holidays.”

Jake is the last of three Sommers kids to go through the same Catholic school, and Mary joked to Buzzfeed that she thinks the teachers will “be happy to have the Sommers family out of that school.” Jake described himself as the class clown to Buzzfeed, while his mom described him as the school clown.

Parents, time to up your teacher gift game.
