Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson loves many things in this world, but if he had to devote himself to just two, it would probably be working out and drinking tequila. The man has said so himself. Multiple times. And, seeing how he’s a hit maker and a box office breaker who seemingly never fails, he’s decided to cut out the tequila middleman and make his own.
According to TMZ, Johnson’s company has filed the paperwork to trademark the name “Mana” for tequila. The Polynesian word means “pervasive supernatural or magical power,” or “spirit.” It’s a word that Johnson has referenced throughout his career to describe everything from his bull skull tattoo to his Warrior Mana DNA. Soon, though, he’ll be able to use it to reference a different type of spirit—one we can all enjoy (not that we don’t enjoy his tattoo).
Celebrities and alcohol brands have become more intertwined than ever in recent years—and that goes double for tequila. From George Clooney to Justin Timberlake to the Backstreet Boys, everyone seems to want a piece of the booming tequila market. If one person can make a new brand stand out in a crowded market, though, it’s Johnson. His cheat days are about to get a lot better with his own personal tequila stash, and us normal mortals will get a taste as well.
