Johnny Depp Spends Way Too Much Money on Wine

If Johnny Depp is wondering where all his money went, maybe he should check his Pirates of the Caribbean-themed wine cave. After the actor filed a suit against The Management Group—which oversees his finances—accusing the company of driving him into debt, the group countersued, placing the blame on Depp’s spending habits which include $30,000 each month on wine.

Depp has long expressed a keen interest in vino, especially heavy hitters like Château Petrus, Cheval Blanc and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, according to The Drinks Business. Back in 2001, he bought a château in the south of France—which is now up for sale for $21 million—so that he could live the oenophilic dream. And after breaking up with Winona Ryder back in 1993, he even changed a tattoo from “Winona Forever” to “Wino Forever.”

According to The Management Group, the monthly wine budget is just the tip of the spendthrift iceberg: Depp has spent $75 million on his 14 homes, $18 million on his yacht and millions more on art. Oh, and then there was that time he spent $3 million to shoot Hunter S. Thompson’s ashes out of a cannon.

Don’t fret, Johnny. With all that wine on hand, we’d probably end up making weird late-night purchases on eBay too. But maybe reel it in a bit and consult our guide to more frugal, quality purchases.
