America Is the 2nd-Most Vacation-Deprived Country

It's no secret that Americans have a royally screwed up work/life balance. But a new study from Expedia sheds greater light on how Americans seriously need a vacation, like, now.

The travel site's annual vacation deprivation study looked into vacation habits among 9,273 employed adults spanning 26 countries in Asia Pacific, Europe, North America, and South America. The results proved the common stereotype: Americans work like dogs, while Europeans actually live life.

Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland all offer 30 vacation days on average, and workers take most of their days. Workers in Italy and Finland are the only ones wasting a significant number of days, using 25 out of the 30 available.

Americans, on the other hand, only get 15 vacation days and don't even take all of them. Typically, citizens of the Land of the Free only take 11 of their promised 15. But even with this sorrowful statistic, Americans aren't the biggest workaholics in the world. No, South Koreans claim that depressing prize, taking off only a paltry six of the 15 days available vacation days each year.

A few other interesting and equally sad statistics came out of the study. For instance, Expedia found that 53% of Americans report being “somewhat or very” vacation deprived. In addition, 26% of Americans would abstain from sex in order to have just one more vacation day. No word on how long or how often these survey takers get some, but all in all they sound like they could use a Sex on the Beach, while having sex on the beach. Who couldn't?
