In the little over two weeks since Pokémon Go captured America like a Pidgey in a Poké Ball, dozens of hacks, cheats, and maps have already emerged to assist you on your quest to become a Pokémon Master. Now, a new study claims to reveal the best cities to catch some of the rarest and most elusive Pokémon in the game -- all via a helpful interactive map.
Wanderu, a ground travel rates website, said it used data such as photos, videos, and more from 250 cities across the country to determine where you will likely find 11 of the game's epic, mythical, and special Pokémon, according to a blog post explaining the study. Specifically, the study focuses on particularly rare Pokémon like Snorlax, Porygon, Aerodactyl, Hitmonlee, while omitting somewhat rare (but generally more plentiful) Pokémon like Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
As you can see on the map, Wanderu found that the best city for catching rare Pokémon is Los Angeles, thanks to its wide diversity of the Pokémon mentioned above. Out of the 11 included in the study, Wanderu claims it confirmed captures of all but two of the Pokémon, Hitmonchan and Magnemite (which actually isn't all that rare, right?). LA is followed by cities like Seattle and New York (tied for second), Houston (third), and San Jose (fourth). Of course, it's worth noting the data Wanderu used appears to be somewhat limited, especially seeing as the game has only been out for about two and a half weeks now.
But then again, it could very well be inspiration enough for a Pokémon Go vacation or road trip, if you're into that kind of thing. Check out additional details and charts over at Wanderu's site. Here's the full version of the map:
