For most Americans, South Africa is a faraway place with an accent you can't quite place, the birthplace of Charlize Theron, and the country we can thank for the best scene in all the Lethal Weapon movies. And while beautiful and alluring, the country's also quite pricey to get to.

But not today!

Right now, if you mosey on over to Expedia New Zealand -- the same ol' Expedia, but for Kiwis! -- you'll be able to snap an unbelievable deal on a South Africa Airways flight from the East Coast to Johannesburg.

Flights starting from Boston's Logan Airport, New York's JFK, and Washington DC's Dulles International are all coming in at astoundingly cheap prices anywhere from August through December to Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International Airport. Prices are quoted in New Zealand Dollars (NZD), but you won't ever see roundtrip flights to SA at these rates. Look at this one from IAD:

Those $544 NZD convert to roughly $390 USD. For the uninitiated, that's less than $400, and flights to South Africa from the US typically cost around $1,200. This is much less than that. Flights from Boston are slightly more expensive, but still sub-$500, with sample itineraries coming in at $466 USD.

And if you're not all about layovers, direct flights from JFK to JNB are coming in at $517 USD. Honestly, that's crazy cheap.

With an unbelievably diverse landscape, amazing wine country, and a ton of history, South Africa offers you a helluva lot to see and do. And now, you can get there without having to steal from your 401K.

Obviously, the rub is to book with a credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees -- otherwise, you'll be paying whatever fees your card charges for that. But at rates this low, even that won't be bad for how good a deal South Africa Airways is running.

Book before they're all gone!
