Chick-fil-A Is Launching Its First New Breakfast Item in 6 Years
Just days after Chick-fil-A celebrated its annual Cow Appreciation Day with tons of free food, the Southern fried chicken sandwich purveyor is serving up more big news -- this time, it (thankfully) doesn't involve people dressing up like cows. Instead, the nation's favorite fast food chain has announced the launch of its first new breakfast entree since 2010: the Egg White Grill.
Chick-fil-A claims the new sandwich is one of the first -- if not the first -- grilled chicken breakfast options in all of fast food, which makes sense considering most breakfast sandwiches come with sausage, ham, or bacon. But just like any other breakfast sandwich, the Egg White Grill is pretty simple -- a grilled chicken breast and grilled egg whites that come topped with American cheese and served on a toasted multigrain English muffin. Here's what it looks like up close:
David Farmer, vice president of menu strategy and development, describes the new sandwich as "the perfect solution" for people looking for a relatively healthy breakfast while on the go. One Egg White Grill contains 300 calories and 25g of protein, according to a press release. In other words, you can feel slightly less bad about ordering a side of waffle fries.
Chick-fil-A said the Egg White Grill arrives in restaurants nationwide on Monday, July 18th, for $3.35. Of course, it's also worth noting that, up until now, Chick-fil-A has offered the Egg White Grill as an exclusive breakfast menu item at its massive New York City restaurant, which opened near Herald Square last October.
But now, if Chick-fil-A has its way, chicken for breakfast is about to go mainstream.
