As you suspected, people who post things like "Love is a fork in the road, take it" on Facebook are complete idiots -- and there's science to prove it. According to a new study conducted by the University of Waterloo, only morons post lame, inspirational shit on Facebook.
The study, titled "On the reception and detection of pseudo-profound bullshit," (what a great name!) tested a group of 280 university students on their ability to detect bullshit in seemingly inspirational phrases. The phrases were taken from Wisdomofchopra.com and Sebpearce.com, both sites that generate random statements by throwing profound-sounding words together. Participants were then asked to rate the profoundness of the phrases on a 1- 5 scale. In addition, all students completed five cognitive tasks to determine their intelligence level, and additional tests eliminated a number of other variables.
The results showed a correlation between low cognitive ability and a person's likelihood to call total bullshit "profound." Of course, more research needs to be done before anyone goes stating this as "fact," but it's pretty hilarious all the same.
But for real though, be the sum of your soul's desires.
