Let's go back in time, guys. Back to 1993. Clinton was in office, "The Simpsons" had just begun to peak, and a woman named Lorena Bobbitt chopped off her awful, cheating husband's penis and threw it into a field. It was an incident that garnered infinite media attention, praise, criticism, and -- of course -- a handful (heh) of skits on Saturday Night Live.
Well, more than two decades after the, um, unpleasantness, Lorena Bobbitt is back and better than ever on "Steve Harvey," proving the bloodlust for 90s nostalgia knows no bounds!
"My story actually has humor, but also, we shine the light on domestic violence as well," Bobbitt told Steve Harvey, politely smiling at the intermittent giggles from the audience. Bobbitt goes on to talk about her new family and how the topic of the incident "never really comes up" with her current partner.
Despite the inherent comedy that has, for better or worse, become attached to the whole thing, Lorena Bobbitt has come up on top. She talks about her organization, Lorena's Red Wagon -- which helps abused women and children -- and even talks about how her ex-husband repeatedly tried to contact her in the last 20 years.
"Something great came from my story," says Bobbitt, "I wanted to bring hope to these women of domestic abuse and that's what I do."
We don't support the act of cutting penises off here at Thrillist, but we also don't support guys like John Bobbitt not having their penises cut off. For what it's worth, John's garbage-dick was eventually reattached and the guy went on to do porn. You can't make this stuff up.
