Here's Why Catching a Baseball with a Tray of Beers Is a Bad Idea

Baseball fans have long demonstrated how catching a foul ball with their beer cup -- and promptly chugging it -- can result in a few seconds of fame. A fan at Saturday's Giants versus Diamondbacks game, however, learned that catching a foul ball with a beer tray can result in, well, a big sudsy splash zone.

As you can see in the video above, the spectacular beer and food destruction happened just seconds after Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt sent a foul ball soaring into right field. The fan in question, Thea Vierling, told MLB's Cut4 she usually brings a baseball glove to games, but resorted to using a beer cup on her tray to snag the foul ball coming her way. And, apparently, it all would have worked just fine if the cup hadn't broken from the impact.

The, uh, catch ended up costing Vierling almost $100 worth of concessions, but at least she managed to take home the actual baseball in the end, per the report.

Here's the Vine version of the clip, so you can enjoy it on repeat.
