The next time you hit up Chick-fil-A for, well, delicious chicken, there's a good chance you can walk out with free ice cream for dessert. There's a catch, of course, and it involves your smartphone -- but it won't leave greasy fingerprints anywhere on your screen.
As explained in a report by Fortune, more than 150 Chick-fil-A restaurants across the country will give you a free Chick-fil-A Icedream (soft serve ice cream cone) if, and only if, you eat your whole meal without looking at your phone screen -- you know, like a decent person. Um, challenge accepted.
Known as the "Cell Phone Coop," the challenge was created by Brad Williams, a Chick-fil-A operator in Suwanee, GA, in an effort to reduce distractions keeping people from enjoying each other's company during meals together. To help, Williams places a small box -- dare we say a coop -- on each table in his restaurant, where people can place their phones while they eat, according to a blog post on the company's website. However, getting through the whole meal without checking Instagram might be harder than it looks.
“We have families who aren’t successful the first time and come back to try again," Williams said in the post. "We even have people asking to take the boxes home with them!"
Unfortunately, the promotion isn't offered at every Chick-fil-A restaurant, so the company recommends you call your local store before showing up to win free ice cream. But then again, even if your Chick-fil-A isn't participating, and even if you're not eating at Chick-fil-A, you should probably give the whole no phone thing a try.
