With recent tutorials on everything from mastering basic cooking skills to preparing perfect steaks, Gordon Ramsay wants to whip you into a better cook -- you know, without all the four-letter expletives. And now, the famously furious chef and alleged baby doppelgänger will make you a better shopper with a new video detailing his tips on how to buy the best and freshest fish.
In the 3-minute video, Ramsay takes us to the famous Billingsgate Market in London, where he allows fish expert and diehard fish enthusiast Roger Kent-Barton to do most of the talking. At one point, the weathered seafood savant picks up a huge fish, buries his nose in it, and says, "Whenever you're going to buy fish don't be frightened--" sniff "--get your nose right into it." The longer a fish sits, he explains, the fishier it will smell, which means the freshest fish won't smell much at all.
When it comes to salmon, Ramsay breaks down what cuts of the popular fish are right for what occasions. Specifically, the chef said he loves slices of smoked salmon in his scrambled eggs. The best fish pointers, however, are explained by Kent-Barton and, best of all, are all delivered in his gravelly British accent with the enthusiasm of a storied fish trader.
Watch, learn, and someday you might serve fish that meets Ramsay's insanely high standards.
