Credit card debt, broken bones, revoked licenses... coming to terms with the repercussions of your poor decisions sucks, but it's how you deal with these challenges that define your character. In the case of one Texas State student who received a DWI after refusing to take a breathalyzer test, her approach to the setback earned her legendary status on campus, and all over the Internet.
Tara Monroe, 20, had apparently been offered a bicycle by her father to use as alternative transportation, in lieu of her car. Shunning the gift -- because "riding a bike around campus sucks. Like really sucks" -- Monroe took to Craigslist to purchase a $60 pink, Barbie jeep, which she consequently named "Charlene" after its former owner.
Though a bike is technically faster than a Jeep -- it's about 10 mph slower, for those keeping count -- the Texas State student considered the potential viral attention worth the extra commuting time: “This is the best way I could have gotten my 15 minutes of fame,” she said. “Basically, it was the best decision I’ve made in college.” Yikes. We're pretty sure this might be the high point of her life (and that's not saying much).
Despite her questionable motives, she pretty much succeeded: the stunt has awarded her celebrity status around town, she's now known as "Barbie Jeep Girl."
