Admit it: you probably don't need the arrival of warm weather or any excuses to enjoy the crap out of some ice cream. Really, all you need is delicious ice cream, a spoon, and probably some comfortable pants. But in some cases, you might also need a strategy for scooping ice cream when it's just too frozen to stuff into your face as usual.
Luckily, the folks over at America's Test Kitchen created a video demonstrating what could very well be among the best ways to successfully scoop super-hard ice cream -- short of letting it sit out and melt a little. As seen in the video, all you have to do is heat a sharp paring knife under warm water and cut a checkerboard pattern about an inch deep into the top of the ice cream. Then, you take an ice cream scoop and heat it with warm water just like the knife, and easily scoop the slices of ice cream into your bowl (or, let's face it, directly into your mouth). It's almost as easy as soft-serve.
Of course, scooping ice cream shouldn't be the most complicated task in your life, so by all means just attack the stuff with your spoon, or pop it in the microwave for few seconds, or let it sit out for a bit to melt instead of adding a knife to the equation. However, you have to admit this method is particularly neat.
Anyway, who's looking forward to National Ice Cream Day next month?
