Along with cheeseburgers and barbecue, few foods are as uniquely American as the deep-fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, and creamy grits of Southern cuisine. Given their ubiquity here in the US, you might think these foods would be fairly popular around the world, right? Well, a new video amusingly proves otherwise.
Although you'd likely be hard-pressed to find some authentic, home-cooked grits in Ireland, the folks over at the Facts. channel on YouTube asked a group of willing Irish people to taste the classic dish for the first time, along with a few other stereotypically "Southern" foods like gumbo, collared greens, and more. And just like previous taste-test videos featuring some of the same Irish people eating things like American barbecue, "weird" American frankenfoods, and "strange" foods from around the world, their reactions to the foreign cuisine ranged from delight to hilarious confusion. For example, at one point, a contributor said, "They look like deep-fried little poops."
Regardless of how you feel about the authenticity of the dishes served, you have to admit the participants' reactions to some of the foods are pretty damn funny. And, well, that's the whole point of these videos, right?
