This summer, Lay's presented America with the daunting task of deciding its newest chip flavor as part of its "Do Us a Flavor" contest. Three months and countless bowls of potato chips later, the votes have been tallied and the winning new flavor has emerged. Out of the four crunchy contenders this year, America has spoken, and unsurprisingly, it loves it some Southern Biscuits and Gravy.
As Yahoo! News reports, millions of chips fans cast their votes for good ol' Biscuits and Gravy over the three other equally creative flavor finalists: Wavy West Coast Truffle Fries, New York Reuben, and Kettle Cooked Greektown Gyro. As we mentioned in our taste test of all four contenders, you can't go wrong with biscuits and gravy, even in the form of potato chips. However, we must say we're a little disappointed that New York Reuben didn't make the cut. C'mon people.
Now that it's been crowned the winner, the Southern Biscuits and Gravy flavor will get an extended run in stores and other potato chip purveyors near you. But the real winner is the flavor's creator, Hailey Green of Noblesville, IN, who will get get $1 million or 1% of its net sales through next July, whichever is greater. She was crowned the grand prize winner of the contest on Tuesday night by none other than singer Nick Lachey, per the Yahoo! report. The three other finalists will each get $50,000, but decidedly less 98 Degrees in their lives.
Regardless of how you feel about this year's winner, everyone can agree it's a zillion times better than cappuccino chips. Never forget.
