Gather up your can-do spirit, because these WWI-inspired NASA posters for Mars exploration are here to rile up your planetary patriotism. This set of Mars recruitment posters from the Kennedy Space Center are all kinds of fantastic.
The only problem here is that there is no Mars recruiting center. In fact, NASA is a little under-funded and, now that it's been mentioned, no one has ever set foot on Mars. Nonetheless! Your planet needs you! Mars needs you! Etc!
The posters push space exploration and the spirit of adventure, as well as the fact that the same tasks we need to do here on Earth will be needed on the soon-to-be-colonized Mars. Farmers, surveyors, teachers, and people who work a nondescript night shift (which horrifyingly appears to require the use of a harpoon) are all jobs you can sign up for at the imaginary recruiting office.
All these need is a recruitment video narrated by a guy who sounds like he's yelling into a tin can. Hike the scenic Valles Marineris canyon under the blue sunset as you prepare the soil for terraforming, before returning to the greenhouse to sprinkle your feces on the community vegetables just like Matt Damon.
The posters were originally exhibited at a 2009 Kennedy Space Center exhibit titled "Journey to Mars," but they've never been available online before now.
