Say you're really into documentaries on dogsled races, but your fellow countrymen just don't care about the topic. Well, this is where Netflix's new global recommendations come in.
In a recent blog post, Netflix unveiled its new global approach to recommendations, and basically, they'll no longer be limited by geographical borders. In the past, Netflix only made personalized recommendations based on data from users in your home country. But now this global business will expand the field, providing you with recommendations that are based on "like-minded viewers" from anywhere on Earth. So long as they have Netflix, of course.
Netflix notes that this will be especially helpful to users with "highly specific or niche tastes." It uses Anime as an example. Though a lot of Anime fans are from Japan, there are certainly plenty of people from outside Japan who love Anime. These cartoon-lovers will now have access to recommendation data from users in Japan to help them make a selection, thus advancing their Japanimation obsession.
