[As you might expect, this article and the above trailer contain a significant reveal for the plot of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. You've been warned.]
During NBC's broadcast of the Olympics Thursday evening, the second full trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story debuted. As expected it's a frenetic glimpse of the of the film set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The trailer gives a glimpse of cinema's breathiest villain, Darth Vader, who is back and maybe looking at the Death Star schematics while thinking about some no-touch chokeholds.
It might be a dirty word, but the film is a prequel and will end shortly before the opening moments of Star Wars: A New Hope. That means the Emperor and Darth Vader loom large, and that's giving fans such complicated emotions, seeing them vacillate somewhere between OH HELL YES! and Please, please don't ruin Darth Vader forever.
In addition to a glimpse of everyone's favorite Sith lord, it also gives a better look at the kind of gritty aesthetic director Gareth Edwards said he was bringing to the film with Zero Dark Thirty cinematographer Greig Fraser. It looks dark.
