Shake Shack Is Launching a New Bacon Cheeseburger

Shake Shack has long offered a sort of bacon cheeseburger with the SmokeShack (topped with bacon, cherry peppers, and Shack Sauce), but in just a couple of weeks, the ever-expanding better-burger empire will finally start serving up a true bacon cheeseburger. And it's as simple as a bacon cheeseburger should be.

Shake Shack describes the new burger, fittingly called the Bacon CheddarShack, as a regular beef hamburger that's simply topped with Niman Ranch bacon and Wisconsin aged cheddar cheese sauce, according to a spokesman reached via email. Yes, you read that correctly, folks: cheddar cheese sauce. On a burger. With bacon. Well, damn.

In case the words "cheese sauce" aren't enough to convince you, here's how Mark Rosati, Shake Shack's culinary director, described the stuff in a report by Food & Wine: "We wanted to bring a sharp, punchy note to the sauce while also keeping that creamy richness. Cheddar has that sharpness and richness, and the three-year aged Wisconsin has a lot of power, but the American cheese gives it that creaminess."

The Bacon CheddarShack will start hitting your local Shake Shack (except the JFK, stadium, and ballparks locations) on Friday, June 3rd for $6.89. Although your love for big globs of cheese sauce and crispy high-end bacon is everlasting, Shake Shack said the new burger will only be 'round for a limited time. And, sure, it's probably not going to be the game-changer that the Chick'n Shack has turned out to be, but it's basically your best new excuse to drop at least ten bucks on a cheeseburger and some fries.
