This Unofficial Starbucks 'Purple Drink' Is Blowing Up on Instagram

As evidenced by the so-called "secret menu" full of insane Frappuccino flavors, Starbucks baristas will make you almost anything you want with the ingredients available to them. But thanks to Instagram, some of these bespoke beverages can quickly become social media sensations, and well, the latest one is called the "Purple Drink." 

Although there isn't an official recipe for the drink (because it's not on the menu, duh), it seems like you can get it by ordering an iced Passion Tango tea with coconut or soy milk instead of water, vanilla syrup instead of classic syrup, and blackberries from the Very Berry Hibiscus Starbucks Refresher. This will probably result in a significant up-charge, but it'll be totally worth it for all the Instagram likes, right? Oh, and did we mention that it's freaking purple?!? 

When asked about the violet beverage via email, a Starbucks spokesperson said the company is always thrilled when customers create all-new beverages that aren't on the menu. Just a few weeks ago, a "Pink Drink" similarly took over Instagram. 

"Our customers are always trying out new ways to customize their favorite drinks -- Purple Drink is a perfect example of that!" the company said in a statement. "We’re blown away with the reaction on social media -- while this isn’t an official Starbucks drink, it’s created a lot of fandom online. If customers would like to order a beverage that is not listed on our menu, we recommend they know the recipe so that their barista can handcraft the beverage perfectly for them."

With that said, you probably shouldn't walk into your local Starbucks and expect anything less than eye rolls when you attempt to order a "grande Purple Drink." Anyway, here are a few more photos of the beautiful lavender-colored drinks from Instagram:
