Applying for a passport can be an awful pain, in terms of both time and cash. But Americans don't have the worst plight of any hopeful travelers -- not even close. To put that into perspective, Statista put together a current list of the most expensive passports out there, and well, you gotta feel bad for the Turks.
Turkey has the most expensive passport in the world, with citizens shelling out $251 for their travel documents. According to Statista, that's about 95 hours of work at Turkey's minimum wage. Australia was up next, with a passport that comes with $206 in fees. Switzerland came in third at $159, but since they're the happiest country in the world, who'd ever want to leave? But for real. The Swiss have plenty of money to handle it.
Even though the United States and the United Kingdom have the most powerful passports in the world, they're not charging quite as much as other countries. They're both in the top 10, with the US tied for sixth, while the UK comes in at 10.
Take a look at the 10 most expensive passports in the world below, and rest assured that the worst part is still the wait in line.
