If the mere mention of the 2016 election makes you feel anxious, frustrated, and even a little sick, just know that you're not alone. The seemingly never-ending political spectacle is even making Marge Simpson lose sleep, as seen in a short new clip from "The Simpsons" released this weekend.
"I can’t take it anymore!” Marge tells Homer, waking up from a nightmare about the election. "Basic manners are gone from politics. What is it with these ding-dongs?" Homer attempts to comfort her, suggesting she try to imagine an America in which "Republicans and Democrats and Donald Trump all get along." And while Marge appears to somehow succeed for a few moments -- picturing the presidential candidates singing and dancing together in friendly harmony to James Taylor’s “How Sweet It Is” on a debate stage -- the vision quickly crumbles back to the unfortunate reality. Or at least a parody of it.
The two-minute clip includes several on-point jabs at particular candidates, and even features former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who actually dropped out of the race on Saturday night after placing fourth in the South Carolina primary. But Homer, in comforting his family about the nightmarish election, might just sum it up best: "It's just like when you have a bad dream, except this is real, and will probably ruin your lives."
