For all the talent he displays in films such as Platoon, Boondock Saints, and
Body of Evidence John Wick, Willem Dafoe isn't inspiring fan requests for him to hop into a skimpy dress. He did it in Boondock Saints, but, well, he's a weird-looking dude. And that's not really why he's great.
Nevertheless, for its big Super Bowl 50 advertising spot, Snickers enlisted the award-winning actor to don a dress again -- but this time, in a truly transformative moment. As with other spots in its ongoing campaign of famous curmudgeons -- including Danny Trejo, Betty White, and Aretha Franklin -- Dafoe displays telltale signs of being hangry on set.
"This is a disaster! Who's the genius who puts a girl in heels on a subway grate?" Dafoe yells.
But the moment a crew member offers up a Snickers and he takes a bite, Dafoe metamorphoses into Marilyn Monroe to act out her unforgettable scene from The Seven Year Itch. All is well. And Eugene Levy even makes a cameo appearance.
"Since we're kicking-off the '50' celebration of one of the world's most iconic events it seemed only fitting to cast Marilyn Monroe, a Hollywood icon with global appeal, to help us celebrate," Snickers Brand director Allison Miazga-Bedrick told AdAge.
