Better than a diet, better than exercise, it's super plate: the plate that burns that paunch right off your torso. OK, that's hyperbolic, but an ad agency in Thailand has developed a plate that makes that greasy meal just a little bit healthier.
The AbsorbPlate has 500 small perforations, "inspired by the texture of a sponge," that trap excess oil in food to make your average meal a little less fat soaked. While it's probably not going to take anyone down a belt notch on its own, it does have the ability to trim calories off of meals without changing eating habits.
BBDO Bangkok partnered with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation to create AbsorbPlate in an effort to address Thailand's obesity problem. They claim the perforations can help remove around 7 mL of oil, which isn't a ton, but does add up to around 30 calories removed from each meal. That's like a sixth of a granola bar, so... whatever. It's something.
It won't work for everything, but makes a lot of sense for the kind of oily noodle dishes they're showing in the video below.
