An app called Beeps is the newest thing you never knew you needed. Beeps provides reoccurring affirmation throughout the day, letting you know you're doing pretty darn swell at whatever it is you're doing. It does so by beeping at random and telling you, "Good job!" That's it. It does nothing else, and it requires you to do nothing before cascading copious praise in your face.
Unfortunately for everyone thinking this is the exact kind of hourly affirmation their day needs, the app isn't real. It's a UCB sketch. But the reason it's funny is that this would blow up the app store if they made it.
The online realm is a space rife with opportunities to seek affirmation. Facebook shares, Instagram likes, Twitter favs (are those called "hearts" now?) are all ways of getting a little praise for the things you do daily. It's a friend (or stranger) letting you know that your pithy thoughts on Donald Trump's tax return are aces. The idea of Beeps cuts out the middle man and the effort, delivering that good feeling when you need it most, and then again after dinner.
So, good job, UCB. You've made an app we're all a little ashamed to want. Good job.
