Starbucks wants to deliver the taste of Italian summertime this season. The coffee chain is getting about as far away from the vibes of its moody Seattle home as it can with Prosecco cocktail lollipops.
The bright red lollipop is inspired by Italian sunsets, and is meant to serve as a delightful break in your day, a Starbucks representative tells Supercall. It’s not a happy hour style break, though, regardless of when you eat them. The Prosecco cocktail lollies are non-alcoholic, imparting the taste but not the relaxation of a midday drink. Judging by the color and the choice of wine and the overall Italian theme, they’re likely modeled after the ultimate Italian summer day drink: the Aperol Spritz.
Sweet tooths beware: These are so much more tasteful than those shot-filled chocolates your parents used to stash away. The new generation of “boozy” candy may not have actual alcohol, but they do come in promising flavors. Starbucks is getting in on an increasingly crowded field of non alcoholic, but alcohol flavored, candy out there. Sugarfina is the most notable candy-tail maker out there with gummies like Tito’s Moscow Mules, Corona and Lime, and a whole bunch of other flavors. Now that Starbucks is jumping in, maybe there will be an all-out alcohol candy war where everyone wins.
The Prosecco cocktail lollipops are available at Starbucks nationwide now until the end of summer.
