Architecture's prime tenet is "form follows function" -- too bad the modern architect's prime tenet's "you have no function, fill out this unemployment form". Taking their degrees in another direction, RAD FurnitureCrafting customizable steel and wood furnishings for near production-line prices, RAD's helmed by a pair of UT-SOA grads whose semester-off diversion blossomed into a full-time post-Master's avocation in response to the dismal architecture climate, now too cold even for a black turtleneck. Each raw or powder-coated Mexican steel piece stems from a commissioned prototype, which is then made avail in a slew of variations (8 colors, multiple sizes), with outdoor models including light, perforated all-metal dining/entry tables durable enough to withstand the elements, as well as more classic steel-legged tables with wood inlays in N. American Cherry, Charred White Oak, and Charred Cypress -- all sourced 100% domestically, so rest easy knowing you're only clearing American forests. Smaller pieces include benches in eye-popping colorways and stools from simple squares to more complex two-legged varieties with angled seats, plus mirrors, perforated coat-racks, and a minimalist pour-over coffee stand with which to make coffee in the maximal amount of time.Despite their focus on reproducibility, they are offering a one-of-a-kind grafitti collab (a table featuring a sprawled out naked woman), and in the future plan to work with more artists -- because even more so than architects, you know they've got the time.
