While morning meals harvested straight from the earth/animal might be soul-affirming, farm life just doesn't cut it for anyone who enjoys sleeping past 4:30am, or not losing limbs to a thresher. For wholesome goodness without dismemberment, grab breakfast/lunch at Ronnybrook Milk Bar, opening Wednesday.
RMB's the NYC storefront of Ronnybrook Farms, Upstaters who've been supplying NYC restaurants since "Got Milk?" was just a question asked by orphans. The mainstay's insanely fresh dairy, all lovingly pulled from the teats of the Farm's 300 individually-named cows, then converted into ice cream shakes, shaken milk cocktails, drinkable yogurt, cheeses, and four kinds of smooth, delicious butter. Fuller meals include Egg in a Hole (a Pine Hill Farms egg wrapped w/ applewood smoked bacon and melted Grafton cheddar), a Roast Berkshire Pork-wich w/ avocado mayo, and, for Manhattan's legions of famished oxen-drivers, a Ploughman's Lunch. You'll devour all this surrounded by walls made of 750 produce crates, and sitting at a 4-sided, room-dominating counter -- just like a regular bar, except dairy products provide no excuse for trying to get back with your ex.
A final note: because Ronnybrook's milk is non-homogenized, even the lactose intolerant can partake -- so regardless of your amusing health problems, you can affirm your soul without lengthy sessions communing with the porcelain alter.
