Athletes love to showcase their accomplishments, from wood and glass trophy cases in their homes, to blingin' diamond-filled championship rings, to Shawn Kemp's really nice filing cabinet full of birth certificates. For a company showcasing its accomplishments in clothing those amorous athletes, check out Mitchell & Ness's Flagship
M&N's new two-level uber-shop feels like an old-school locker room thanks to raw brick walls, hardwood floors, and plenty of lockers, and's anchored by a back wall supporting more than 100 throwback hats, which you shouldn't do with Oddjob's derby because, man, he's just going to throw it right back at your face again. Upstairs on the mezzanine, there's a showroom/meeting space that recalls the company's beginnings as a golf and tennis outfitter via glass-wrapped cases holding vintage M&N track shoes, rackets, and clubs, plus a salvaged basketball court they call "striking", doubly so if Bill Laimbeer's standing behind you. Because it is a shop, the racks're stocked with their vintage gear, including just-dropped duds like a Neon Deion Falcons homer from 1990, a pair of Will Clark and Matt Williams BP warmups from the '89 Giants, and nylon NHL jackets from the '90s including now-defunct teams like the Hartford Whalers and the Toronto Maple Leafs...wait, what
As you get your shop on, there're flatscreens hung around the joint displaying clips of classic sports moments, like when Wilt delivered 100 -- but thankfully not when Kemp's 100th was delivered.
