Museum dates can be fun: you get to walk around and check out art, and, if all goes according to plan, confuse Denis Leary and the other police by incorporating several other well-dressed men also wearing bowler caps and trench coats. Ensuring that hunger doesn't get in the way of your sophisticated trickery, New American Cafe, now open
Just opened within the museum's new Art of the Americas Wing (and a side project from the chef behind Clio, Uni, and Toro), NAC's an airy 130-seat locavore-friendly lunch/dinner spot serving "modern American fare w/ a creative nod to New England's heritage" within a glass-enclosed three-floor courtyard replete with marble floors, 36 tables, and giant sculptures like a stainless steel meteorite named "Artificial Rock #85", also a screenplay in which Dwayne Johnson plays a wide receiver made completely of metal, who's ALSO a wet nurse! Choice sustenance includes gremolata-topped braised beef short ribs w/ fresh egg noodles and wild mushrooms; an apple cranberry buttered turkey panini sided w/ sea salt chips and covered w/ Nueske's bacon and Boggy Meadows Swiss; and a lobster pot pie w/ fennel, peas, and red thumb potatoes -- which would probably be a lot bigger if they knew anything about gardening. For the more adventurous (and who, in an art museum, isn't?!?), there's an Oringer-inspired, Western Hemi-influenced prix fixe tasting menu that includes cilantro-seasoned tuna ceviche w/ coconut and jalapeno; al pastor marinated chicken w/ Cuban black beans, salsa verde, and sweet plantains; and orange-cinnamon sugar & chestnut honey'd churros "con chocolate", also the type of treat Bernie Madoff enjoys in prison, when he's not creating intricate schemes to acquire all the cigarettes.
If you just want to drink away the art, NAC's pouring frosty suds from across the Americas including harder-to-find Peruvians like Cristal and Cusquena, the Colombian Cerveza Aguila, and Costa Rica's Imperial American, which would be perfect if Brosnan wasn't English, and those scenes weren't filmed in Martinique.
