It takes a rare talent to duplicate previous successes, like Phil Jackson, who managed to score rings with multiple NBA teams, and Andie MacDowell, who managed to score sex with multiple Michael Keatons. For a rare talent of a chef trying to do the same by sexing up an old resto, hit 5 Corner Market Bar & Kitchen.
Helmed by a former Starbucks/SBC exec, and chef'd by a Quinn's/Oddfellows alum, this 125-seater in the old Lombardi's space boasts a low-ceiling'd upstairs eat-space & lumber-trimmed bar, where they're serving up a small-batch bourbon-heavy list of 'tails to go with its locally sourced pub-vittles, much of which is cooked using a charcoal-fired Josper Oven (only the second in the country, after the one at Cafe Lago) that cooks at up to 1000 degrees, also what Louie Anderson wears to combat his sweating issues. Josper-cooked mains include a Blackened Lamb Sirloin w/ charred broccoli & pine nut marmalade, the mushroom ragu/ spinach/ truffle/ pappardelle sided Braised Short Rib, and a 1/2lb burger w/ beef fat fries on a pretzel bun topped w/ Wookey Hole cheddar -- though eat slowly, as people tend to bite off more than they can chew
bacca. Other eats include pastas (sweet potato ravioli w/ chestnut & sage), salads ("pastrami" seared foie gras, w/ sour cherry sauerkraut salad & rye croutons), and small plates like Smoked Chicken Thighs w/ market BBQ & cornbread salad, also what 1981 Finals MVP Cedric Maxwell calls his days with the Celtics.
Not content just putting solids in your gastro, 5C's got craft taps from Two Beers to Green Flash, and micro-distilled gins and vodkas to go with the aforementioned spirits outta Kentucky -- the only place besides Andie's house where you can trade rings with that many family members.
