A New York-style institution on Fairfax

Outside look at Canter's

This New York-style deli is guaranteed to make you feel young, as a result of both its nostalgic diner dishes and the fact that it’s really old. The joint was founded in 1931 by a pair of New-Jersey-ites whose Jersey City deli folded during the Depression, which prompted them to move out West in search of gold hungover Angelenos. Many celeb customers, late-night-eats-seekers, and pastrami sandos later, Canter’s is still kickin’ (under the same family management) as a go-to spot for good greasy fare -- and an epic cocktail lounge that opens at 1030a.
