A luxe leather icon makes its first foray into furniture

Proving 80-year-olds can learn, and master new tricks without embarrassing themselves, the leather gurus at Moore & Giles — who've been doing luxe leather work for the high-end hospitality, aviation, and residential industries since 1933 (and more recently, crafting some of the most finest damn messenger and travel bags you've ever seen) — have thrown their hat into the furniture ring, with a debut collection that includes a writing table, stool, and magazine holder.

While the spread is minimal, it's the meticulous craftsmanship the brand has built a reputation on that sets it apart. Each piece is hand-crafted one-by-one in their Lynchburg, Virginia, workshop by a master cabinetmaker, using raw local materials like Virginia Black Walnut, Southern Yellow Pine, and Virginia steel for the hardware.

They haven't abandoned their leather roots, though, as each one incorporates a fair amount in the detailing: the top of the writing desk has an inlaid panel; the stool's seat is upholstered; and two panels make up the edges of the magazine rack.
