Whether you’re on the run from the law or just trying to stay away from a stalker ex-girlfriend, blocking GPS-tracking on your phone is about to get easier. OFF Pocket is developing a Kickstarter to fund production of an anti-surveillance case for your phone, a simple cover that blocks all wireless signals that could give away your location and other personal information. Revelations about increased NSA spying might make certain people paranoid, and this stylish phone accessory can lock in all your deepest secrets. Conventional wisdom says keeping your phone in a refrigerator or steel cocktail shaker will cut off some connections, but these aren’t exactly high tech solutions. And even shutting off your phone and removing your battery isn’t foolproof. The OFF Pocket, on the other hand, has a 100 decibel shielding score, which blocks frequencies between 800 megahertz and 2.4 gigahertz. Though superb protection comes at a cost, and a wait: the price for the case starts at $85, and won’t ship until the end of September. Future Edward Snowdens of the world, take note. The phone-in-the-fridge approach is a fine quick fix, but if you really want to move between Hawaii, Hong Kong and Moscow undetected, the OFF Pocket is probably worth the investment.
