Samsung and LG have been battling for home theater supremacy for about as long as I’ve been bolting their increasingly cheap flat panel displays to the walls in my sublet. But after a recent blow to the head in the form of a $9,000 price tag (vs. the $15,000 on LG’s offering), Samsung might be pulling out ahead. The curved screen of the KN55S9C — or “Kenny C” as I like to call it — utilizes OLED screen tech that has been largely speculative until very recently. Essentially it will allow for the deepest dark tones, the most vibrant colors, and the most active screen response. Imagine the best aspects of LCD, LED, and Plasma combined into one sexy package. You’ll also notice the OLED screen has a sort of camber to it, which sounds like little more than a neat trick until you realize that the TV is capable of displaying two programs simultaneously on the same screen while the viewers wear 3D glasses. Never again will your significant other be without her beloved Cake Boss while you binge watch Frasier on Netflix.
