Smartphones might someday make you a safer driver

Talk about making lemonade out of lemons: Honda thinks those PSA-prone smartphones might actually be able to perform in a manner that doesn't put drivers, riders, and pedestrians at risk. Employing Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC), the vehicle manufacturers hope to equip cars, motorcycles, and people-in-general with Vehicle-to-Motorcycle (V2M) and Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) technology, warning users of precarious situations just down the road. Now, this is a long ways from becoming a widely-used reality — it's still in development through a program at the University of Michigan — but we're all for safer streets.
