It’s hard to beat a classic root beer float. The blend of vanilla ice cream and sassafras-flecked soda is just the right amount of old-timey. Bartender Erin Sullivan of New York City bar The Third Man puts a simple twist on that classic delight by adding a shot of Jägermeister, which ups the old-fashioned candy quotient with its bittersweet black licorice flavor. A drop of orange blossom water brightens things up.

The Inside Scoop



  • 2 oz Jägermeister
  • 4 oz root beer
  • 1 drop orange blossom water
  • 1 Scoop vanilla ice cream


Step one

Mix the Jägermeister, root beer, and orange blossom water in an Old-Fashioned glass.

Step two

Top with ice cream and serve with a straw.
