Cinnamon Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned is a perfectly cozy cocktail come the cold winter months thanks to whiskey’s warm embrace, but it’s missing some of the wintery flair found in seasonal cocktails like eggnog or bourbon apple cider. Luckily, there’s an easy fix: Just add cinnamon syrup. By swapping out the traditional white sugar cube with cinnamon syrup (made simply by steeping cinnamon sticks in homemade simple syrup), the Old Fashioned transforms into a cozy, cold weather treat. We recommend using rye whiskey for its inherent spiciness, but feel free to use any whiskey of your choosing, from peaty scotch to smooth, caramel-tinged bourbon. The same goes for the bitters; winter varieties like fig or apple would be a welcome pairing, but cinnamony Angostura bitters will always do the trick.
