The Bunny Hop

Matthew Kelly / Supercall

Every Greek worth his or her moussaka has played the red egg game. A couple days before Easter Sunday, someone dyes a batch of eggs bright red. During the big meal, everyone picks an egg and takes turns tapping them against each other, large end to large end and small end to small end. Whoever is left with an uncracked egg at the end of the game is awarded good luck for the rest of the year. Inspired by this festive tradition, we spiked classic cranberry vodka Jello shots with a little orange liqueur and topped them with a dollop of homemade whipped cream to represent a cute bunny cottontail. They’re just the right amount of sweet, just the right amount of tart and deliver the perfect after-dinner buzz.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1.25 cups Cranberry Juice
  • .25 Cup tart cranberry juice
  • 2.5 packets gelatin
  • .25 Cup Orange Liqueur
  • .75 Cup Vodka
  • Freshly whipped cream

INSTRUCTIONS

Step one

Add cranberry juices to a saucepan with the gelatin. Allow it to sit for a few minutes. Heat on low and stir until gelatin is fully dissolved.

Step two

Remove from heat and add orange liqueur and vodka to the saucepan.

Step three

Pour into Easter egg molds and allow to set in the fridge overnight.

Step four

Remove Jello eggs from mold. If you’re having trouble getting them out, dip the bottom of the mold in hot water to loosen the shots.

Step five

Add freshly whipped cream to a piping bag and attach a Russian nozzle on the end. Add a fancy dollop of whipped cream to the top of each egg to resemble a bunny’s cottontail.
