Hale Pele’s Sierra Kirk wanted to experiment with gin in place of the traditional rum for her piquant take on a Daiquiri. “The combination of the slightly floral, rich almond syrup (orgeat) and the brightness of the gin and lemon juice make for a refreshing and slightly tart frozen treat,” Kirk says. This drier take on the classic cocktail is a perfect happy hour pick-me-up on a hot summer day, especially if you’re not a die-hard rum fanatic. If you don’t have time to whip up your own orgeat, Kirk suggests Small Hand Foods’ formula in lieu of the homemade stuff.

Sweet, Sour


  • .75 oz Lemon Juice
  • 1 oz Orgeat
  • 2 oz Gin
  • 2 dashes bitters
  • 8 oz crushed ice
  • Edible flower or lemon wheel


Step one

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Step two

Pour into a coupe glass, garnish with an edible flower or lemon wheel, and enjoy!
