Missionary’s Downfall

This cocktail from tiki godfather Don the Beachcomber lives up to its name—it will tempt anyone, even the most abstinent, to take a sip. The bright, fruity drink marries fresh mint with pineapple, rum, peach brandy and honey syrup in an icy, blended slushy. If you do succumb to its wiles, take comfort in the fact that the Missionary’s Downfall is lower in alcohol than many of its tiki cousins, making it an easygoing option for leisurely tiki nights under the cabana.

Missionary’s Downfall



  • 4 sprigs Fresh mint
  • 1 oz White Rum
  • .5 oz Peach Brandy
  • .5 oz fresh lime juice
  • .5 oz Honey syrup
  • Half a Slice Pineapple
  • Pineapple leaf, for garnish (optional)


Step one

Separate mint leaves from stems of the four sprigs.

Step two

Add the mint leaves, white rum, peach brandy, lime juice, honey syrup, mint and pineapple to a blender with crushed ice and whir until smooth.

Step three

Pour into a coupe, and garnish with a mint sprig and a pineapple leaf.

Mix It Up!

A good peach brandy, such as Catoctin Creek, makes all the difference in this drink. But if you choose to use a less expensive peach brandy liqueur instead, reduce the honey syrup to a quarter ounce.
