Your Go-To Whiskey Sour, Optimized for Autumn

Fancy up your classic whiskey sour with an autumnal twist. Infuse simple syrup with warm, spicy chai tea and mix it all up with lemon juice and an egg white for a cocktail that subtly murmurs "fall" (because a chai whiskey sour would "murmur" rather than "scream", of course). Inspired by F&B Department.

Chai Whiskey Sour

Yield: 1 cocktail

  • 2 oz American whiskey
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • ¾ oz Chai Syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • Ice
  • Cinnamon stick, for garnish
  • Star anise, for garnish
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 chai tea bags
  • Granulated sugar
  • For the Chai syrup: bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Add tea bags and sugar and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and allow to simmer and thicken for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and allow syrup to chill entirely.
  • For the drink: add the whiskey, lemon juice, chai tea syrup, and egg white to a cocktail shaker and shake for a few seconds without ice. Add the ice to the shaker and continue shaking. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and star anise, if desired.
